Not very happy with the smartphone case I purchased I was thinking of a new one and the posted January challenge gave me a good reason to finally make one. Due to an accident I had a couple of weeks ago most of it was done one handed only and it took a bit longer than usually.

Going through the stages of the making. I found this drawing. Someone mentioned one can’t tool what can be drawed. I strongly believe it’s rather a matter of talent than a limitation due to tools or whatever. I believe that I mentioned it before that I droppedĀ the standard tooling some time ago and inspired by some great craftsmen like Vitaly Samarin I started this kind of tooling. My biggest issue so far is to get the faces done right. Especially the area around the eyes is difficult for me. This is something I have to practice more.IndianWomanPainted

In another step I tried my luck onĀ painting. Never done it before and especially not with acrylic colors. This again will have to be practiced more. A lot more by the looks of it.

A new leatherworker.net forum member mentioned his method of painting with tattoo ink. I might just try that once, but before that I’ll get myself a pyrography tool and learn how to do this and see how I can improve my skills and products with it.

All in all it took me about 10 hours to finish this smartphone sleeve. It attaches to the belt with a quick snap. The half-circle cut out in the front is a pull to get out the smartphone if necessary. Smartphones of up to 70 mm width, 120 mm tall and 9 to 10 mm thickness will fit into this sleeve. Longer smartphones will just standout a bit.

Not sure if I’m going to keep it or just sell it off and make another one. Maybe I’ll play around with the design a bit more… Oh well there are so many things I can still learn.
